Gone Country Finale

by Heather Williams

I have watched every episode of
Gone Country.

I was watching it for the circus factor and didn’t plan to write about it in the blog. After watching the Gone Country finale, I just had to write something. I was surprised how well the contestants did in their final performances. I was pretty skeptical about any of them going country up until this episode. I thought for sure that Maureen McCormick would get stage fright and not even perform. She pulled it out though. Maureen had the most emotional performance. I really liked that song she sung. I hope someone ends up recording it. There was something I just liked about Carnie Wilson and her performance. I really wouldn’t mind if she put out a country CD. I actually hoped she would win. Diana DeGarmo of course sung well. I just figure with a voice like that she will eventually make it and doesn’t really need to win Gone Country. Bobby, Dee, Julio, and Sisqo did fine but I didn’t really care if any of them won. I had no idea who John Rich would pick as the winner.

At first I was completely shocked that Julio Iglesias Jr. was picked as the winner of Gone Country, but then it began to make sense to me. I realized that John Rich really was looking for something new. He really wanted to connect with Latino country fans and do something original. John Rich’s ability to think outside the box and do new and big things in music is why he is the huge success he is today. I am actually excited to see what will come of trying to bring that Latin flavor into country music.
