Who should win 2008 ACM award for Duo & Vocal Group?
by Heather Williams
The 43rd annual ACM nominations were announced March 4th. Reba will be hosting the award show in Las Vegas on Sunday May 18th at 8 PM. It will air on CBS. The ACM’s requirements for being chosen for an ACM can be found at about.com’s country music blog site written by Shelly Fabian ACM nomination voting criteria
The nominees for top vocal group are Diamond Rio, Little Big Town, Rascal Flatts, Eagles, and Emerson Drive. I like Emerson Drive and Little Big Town but I will have to say I think Rascal Flatts will win and should win. I know there are people out there that don’t like Rascal Flatts. However, I do like them. I think they sing with emotion and heart, pick great songs, and are just good people!
Does anyone know why Eagles and Diamond Rio are on the list this year?
The nominees for duo of the year are: Montgomery Gentry, Big & Rich, Brooks & Dunn, Sugarland, & Halfway to Hazzard. Brooks & Dunn win this thing every year so I guess they are the obvious choice for who will probably win. However, there is so much talent in the Duo category. One can hope that someone else will get chosen this year. I have always liked Montgomery Gentry and I really like some of Big & Rich’s songs. I think I would like Montgomery Gentry to win. I must admit I don’t know much about Halfway to Hazzard. I think I have heard one song of their’s. I will have to listen to more of their music when I have a chance. Sugarland of course is great. I personally just like the duo’s where the sound is shared more evenly by the two members.
Who do you think should or will win Vocal Group & Duo ACM awards this year?

I like Emerson Drive and Little Big Town, but even thought I absolutely love Moments by Emerson Drive I would have to go with Little Big Town because I love their harmonies. I’m not a fan of Rascal Flats, but I understand why other people like them and would be very surprised if they didn’t win. The Eagles new cd is classified as country and they have had two country singles, How Long, which I think charted in the 30’s and Too Busy Being Fabulous, which is still pretty new so it hasn’t made a big splash on the charts yet. Diamond Rio had a Christmas cd, so I guess maybe they were just picked to fill in the gap. I was kind of confused by that too.
As for Duo I would like Sugarland to win, and I think they probably will. Nothing against Brooks and Dunn, but I would like to see someone new win, and since Sugarland won at the CMA’s i think they have a chance. I love the fresh sound thier music has. I also really like Montgomery Gentry, so if they won I would be happy as well. Although I like Big and Rich, I’m not a huge fan and I don’t think they’re doing quite as well as they were. I’m with you on Halfway to Hazard, I have only heard one of their song, so I’m not really sure what to think. The song I heard was Daisy, which I didn’t really like, but I can’t really judge them only having heard that. Like you said, a lot of talent in that category!

Bobby,
I can see why you like Little Big Town to win. What I like about Little Big Town is that all the members have such talent. You rarely see so much musical talent in one group these days. Another cool thing about Little Big Town is they have this sound that seems timeless. I have a soft spot for Rascal Flatts but I wouldn’t be sad at all if Little Big Town won!!
Sugarland would deserve duo of the year if they got it. They have talent and seem to really enjoy themselves out there. Your comment about Big & Rich is legitimate. It will be interesting to see what they will do next and I can’t wait to hear John Rich’s solo album.

I had forgotten about the solo album from John Rich! I agree that that will be interesting to hear. I have liked all of the songs he has written for other singers, so it will be neat to see how his solo music will be different then their music as Big & Rich.
