My Kids Hate Country Music
by Heather Williams
Jason Aldean covering Paradise/Sweet Child Of Mine
My dirty little secret is that my twin 7 year old boys hate country music. When they were three, they were content to dance around the kitchen to a cranked up stereo playing Dixie Chicks. Now as they grow older they seem drawn to my husband’s Jimmy Hendrix CDs. In my house country music is always playing. My twins often make comments on how they don’t like that cowboy music. They throw a fit if they get into the car and find me playing country. The other day jazz music was playing on a TV program and one twin turned and told me that Jazz was even worse than the music I listened to. Like that was supposed to make me feel better. I am horrified. I don’t know where my kids get this attitude. My husband listens to all types of music and I worship country. I am determined to lure my kids to the side of country music. I must! Even if I can’t get my kids to like traditional or softer country, I should be able to get them to appreciate country rock. I am hoping my sons and I can find some common ground to enjoy country music together. I am addicted to artists that put out rocking country music like Gretchen Wilson, Big & Rich, and Jake Owen. However it is hard to find songs with rock influences that aren’t about sex and alcohol. Every country rock song I listened to seemed inappropriate for 7 soon to be 8 year olds. Any suggestions in that department would be appreciated. When I stumbled upon Jason Aldean covering a Guns & Roses song on You Tube I knew he was the man for the job. I knew that Jason could show these boys that country is cool! This Friday we are going to see Jason Aldean play in Jim Thorpe, PA. I will post about the concert and my kids reaction.

I hope it works for you! Whenever someone says they don’t like country music, I find it very hard not to get defensive. Jason Aldean is fun, and he seems like he has a lot of energy, so he seems like a good choice to convince them!!
