In my original post I wrote that it was cool that the CMT Awards are picked by the fans. What was I thinking? I naively thought that country music fans would vote on CMT for the best videos. Instead we got an American Idol like voting frenzy of young people proving their allegiance and love for Taylor Swift. I wonder what Kenny Chesney and Brad Paisley were thinking when Taylor Swifts name was called instead of their own names. They probably did’t really care because they see the awards for what they are but they must have been a little surprised. The whole CMT Music Awards event seemed like it didn’t know if it was trying to be a respectable country music award show or some fresh hip MTV like event. I am afraid it felt more like the latter. Anyway now that I have vented some frustrations about the CMT Awards show, I want to post the positives from the show. I think the most deserving winner of the evening was Kelly Pickler for her emotional and personal song, “I Wonder”. I just like that girl. I think Kelly Pickler is so sweet and genuine. I think the best live performance of the night was Sugarland, Little Big Town, and Jake Owen singing, “Life In A Northern Town.” They all have such amazing voices and blended so well together. I also liked the opening with Keith Urban and Brooks & Dunn. What I liked about that performance was they all showed what amazing musicians they are and that they are more than just singers.
So tell me what do you think about the show last night?

I didn’t think the show was very memorable, and I was also surprised that Taylor Swift won. Although I find that song enjoyable, the video is nowhere near the quality of the other videos nominated. I don’t really think the awards were even about the videos, because the fans probably just voted on what song they liked best. And while I don’t mind Miley Cyrus, but I don’t think she should have anything to do with country music. The preformances you metioned were probably my favorites too. “Life in A Northern Town” really showcased all of their vocal and it was great to hear Krisian Bush from Sugarland singing. The Keith Urban, Brooks and Dunn one was great. I’ve loved that song since I heard it on the cd, and it was cool, as you said, to see their talents as musicians. I thought most of the othe preformances were mediocre, except I didn’t care for the ones by Rascal Flats, Taylor Swift(like the song, I just didn’t think it sounded that great) and Billy Ray Cyrus with Miley Cyrus. Hopefully the ACM’s will be better
