Bizarre Night On Nashville Star - Episode 5
by Heather Williams

Episode 5 of Nashville Star was very interesting last night. The drama that was occuring outshined most of the performances and the best performance of the night came from the group that ended up being sent home.
Watching Nashville Star was actually fun because of all the little dramas going on. One drama event was watching girl duo Sophie and Laura have a meltdown and fight with each other. The meltdown proved what John Rich has been saying about the girls not being ready for the big time. The best drama of the night was Shawn Mayer firing John Rich! That was great. I don’t think Shawn Mayer has the singing ability right now to win Nashville Star but I can’t help but like that girl. I am glad she stood up to John Rich because it was clear that the mentoring style was not working for her. John and Shawn are just too fiesty to work together.
I felt like most of the contestants were off their game last night. My complaint for Gabe, Ashlee, and Melissa were all the same. Their style did not fit the song. All three did not adapt the songs enough to fit them. Melissa Lawson had a hard song to sing. I am an Anne Murray fan and love the song “Danny’s Song.” I don’t think Mellissa’s style and sound fit that song. I wonder what her other song choice was? I think singing Keith Urban was hard for an artist like Gabe Garcia. I was actually impressed Gabe did as well as he did. Poor Ashlee being in the bottom two and then singing a song out of her comfort zone that is older than her. I am glad John and others noted she should not be in the bottom two. However, I think John Rich should have done a better job helping Ashlee adapt the song to more of her style. Even star country musicians don’t stray away from what they are good at. I love Taylor Swift, Martina McBride, etc. but they sing the same thing over and over.
I just laughed when Coffey sang. My notes about his performance was “same crap different night.” I know his sound is not pure country but I just don’t get why he can’t sound just a little bit country. I wish they would just vote him off already. Thankfully the other non-country guy Tommy Stanley was voted off last night.
The bizzarre event of the night was watching Pearl Heart do an amazing performance of Garth Brook’s “Ain’t Going Down ’til the Sun Comes Up.” It was such a great performance and they did a great job with the guitars. I was shocked how great they were and I finally saw the talent there. It is too bad they were voted off . Last night’s performance and their attitude/work ethic won them an invitation from Jeffrey Steele to visit his studio which ended up making Nashville Star a winning venture for the sisters.
After watching Nashville Star for weeks, and especially after last night’s show, I feel like I am getting to know the judges a little better. Jeffrey Steele is the Dad of the group. Jeff is tough yet he supports the ones he is mentoring and is able to be criticize with out destroying a person. I think John Rich has become a better judge in the past weeks. I agree with pretty much everything he says. I like that he is tough and a little mean. All the reality talent shows always has a tough judge. He fits the part well. My thoughts of Jewel as a judge are mixed. I am a fan of Jewel. However, she seems very Diva to me on the show. She seems stuck up. I am not sure I like how she acts. I wish they had picked a female judge that has been in country longer like a Wynonna Judd or Sara Evans etc.
Let me know what you think! Who do you like? What do you think about the judges and the show?

I AM A BIG FAN OF NASHVILLE STARS IT’S BEEN A FAVORITE OF MY SINCE IT’S BEEN ON BUT LAST NIGHTS SHOW MAKES ME WANT TO STOP WATCHING IT THE WAY JOHN RICH AND JEWEL ACTED WAS IN THE POOREST TASTE I’VE EVER SEEN. I STOPPED WATCHING JOHN RICH AFTER HIS QUEST HOSTING ON ONE OF THE OTHER NASHVILLE STARS SHOWS BECAUSE OF HIS ATTITUDE I ALMOST DIDN’T WATCH THIS SEASON BECAUSE OF HIM. JEWEL ACTED LIKE A BIG BABY LAST NIGHT . I MOST LIKLY WON’T EVER WATCH ANYTHING WITH HER ON IT AGAIN, HER ATTITUDE THROUGH THIS SEASON HAS BEEN AS IF SHE THINKS SHE’S ONE OF THE GREATEST SINGER THERE IS AND SHE NOT. BEING TOUGH ON THE SINGERS IS ONE THING BUT ACTING LIKE OVERGROWN BABIES IS ANOTHER. NASHVILLE STARS THIS SEASON IS NOT CLOSE TO BEING AS GOOD AS ALL THE OTHER SHOWS BECAUSE OF JOHN RICH AND JEWEL.

i think jewel needs to go. jeffrey does a good job, but i think john is the best judge. he is tough but he tells it like it is and that’s what they need to hear.
