Well we are down to the final 5. I think the show will get better and better now. The teen duo were voted off so we are left with Coffey, Melissa Lawson, Ashlee Hewitt, Shawn Mayer, and Gabe Garcia. This past Monday’s performances were all pretty good.
I think Melissa and Gabe both did a good job. Melissa really can sing! I really like the song Gabe sang. The Billy Currington song, “Doing Something Right” is a HOT song and Billy Currington makes you melt when he sings it. Gabe really wasn’t able to totally deliver on the song. I agreed with Jewel’s critique for Gabe. My favorite of the night was Ashlee Hewitt. She would fit well with the other young talent on the country music scene right now. She made the Dixie Chick song “Cowboy Take Me Away” her own. When Ashlee is able to take a song and adapt it to her style and strength she shines! Shawn Mayer also did well singing Carrie Underwood’s “Before He Cheats.” The song fit her style. The big surprise performance was Coffey. He was authentic, real, and you could see a glimpse of country there.
The other big news of the night was John Rich speaking out about how contestants were chosen for this season of Nashville Star. He made it clear that he wasn’t happy with some of the choices. He said that NBC had the final say on who was chosen. Now things make more sense to me! I have more respect for the judges and hope that next season Nashville Star goes back to cable!
