Darius Rucker’s singing “Don’t Think I Don’t Think About It” at his Grand Ole Opry debut this past July.
Many country fans take issue when pop or rock artists cross over into country music. I am pretty open-minded but usually have very low expectations. The biggest offense and what I consider cross over crap is when pop artists completely miss the soul and emotion behind country music and think they can just put some country music in the background and they have a country song. I also find it annoying when an artist fails at pop and then runs to country music to gain or re-gain fame. My favorite part is when the cross over artist says their roots and true love has always been country. Yeah Right! If you loved country so much why did you do pop albums first. I am not going to name specific names here. Everyone can fill in the blanks for themselves.
One of my favorite albums right now is from a cross over artist and is the reason for this post. Darius Rucker and his new album, Learn To Live is definitely not your usual cross-over crap! I love that Rucker doesn’t sound like he is trying too hard. When you listen to Learn To Live you hear a seasoned singer singing great country music with a true ear and spirit for the country sound . He is able to provide the right level of emotion for each song. The sound of his voice is beautiful too. His new album is modern, fresh, and well written. If you haven’t heard the whole album you can listen to it for free at Imeem.com. A huge Darius Rucker fan has posted all his songs at Darius Rucker’s Album Learn To Live on Imeem.com

I saw Darius play an acoustic set in Austin today. It rocked! Here’s an interview where he talks about the crossover on the local FOX affiliate: http://www.myfoxaustin.com/myfox/pages/Entertainment/Detail?contentId=8297621&version=1&locale=EN-US&layoutCode=VSTY&pageId=7.3.1
