Hopes for the 2009 ACM Awards

The 44th ACM Awards airing Sunday April 5th on CBS at 8 PM will be hosted by Reba McEntire. To find out more about nominees and the ACM’s you can visit the ACM Website I also put a clip of the nominees at the bottom of this post.

We all want to see our favorites win the big awards. We all have our opinions on who we think will win and who we think should win. I will share my thoughts and I hope you will comment and tell me yours!

My hope is that Keith Urban will take Male Vocalist. He deserves it. Country Music needs to take the blinders off and look around and recognize all the greats in country music not just the handful they reward over and over.

My dream is that a chick, Carrie Underwood will beat the boys and take Entertainer of The Year. The ladies always rock it on stage and Carrie is a great entertainer. So everyone vote for Carrie! If Keith Urban won this I wouldn’t be sad either.

I hope Jake Owen takes new male vocalist. I just love that guy. 8 second ride is still my favorite treadmill song. I don’t think he will get it though. I think Jamey Johnson will get it. Jamey is so awesome and deserves it if he gets it.

I am a huge Montgomery Gentry fan and don’t know why they don’t get more recognition. I want them to win Duo of The Year!
I would roll with those guys any day! I love Joey & Rory but my complaint with them is the same as my complaint with Sugarland. Those groups are so driven by awesome female vocalists that I don’t like to view them as duos. Right or wrong that is just my opinion.

I don’t have much of an opinion on this years female vocalists. I think Carrie will win and I am ok with that. Miranda Lambert of course is also a good choice. I like all the nominees. I don’t really care that much for the choices for the new female vocalist. They are just OK. I am not wild in love with any of the choices.

So I guess the main reason to watch the ACM’s this year is to find out if Keith Urban will finally get a big award. Of course it always fun to watch the live performances. ACM recently released their performers for the event. Toby Keith, Miranda Lambert, Tim McGraw, Heidi Newfield, Rascal Flatts, Sugarland and Taylor Swift will perform. I am looking forward to seeing Tim perform. I also think Sugarland does a great job at these live events.

About Joey + Rory. True, Joey is an awsome, strong female vocalist, and this first CD is definitely driven by her voice. But when J+R perform live, Rory takes the lead in many, many songs, and they both sing solo on occasion, too. I saw an interview where Rory said that he may even take the lead in the next CD, that they might call it “Rory + Joey” (though he was probably kidding about the name change).
The bigger issue with J+R and the ACM awards is that they weren’t nominated in the “New Artists” category!

I’m so in agreement with you about Keith Urban! He is an awesome vocalist! I like Carrie too but I would much prefer to see Keith take the EOTY award. IMO, he should have gotten it last year. However, since it’s fan voted, it’s probably going to either be Chesney..AGAIN or Carrie and if it is between these 2, my vote would go to Carrie!

First let me say you are so right that they should have been in the new duo category. They would win there and should be there. I don’t know why they do that. Sometimes it seems so random who they decide are a new act and who they decide are not.

Thanks for letting me know that Rory is more involved then I thought. I am looking forward to hearing an album with more of his voice in the singing. I like the give and take in duets and I don’t like it when one person dominates.

I have to say again. I really loved Joey & Rory’s album. I will have to go see them live and then write about that.

You are so right about Entertainer probably going to Chesney because of the fan vote. If we are lucky Carrie might get it. I am not crazy about the fan vote. I guess we will just have to hope Keith gets male vocalist of the year.

I agree with you about Keith Urban. He should take best Male Vocalist award. It as been a while since Keith has walked away with an award. I am hoping Carrie Underwood walks away with EOTY award. plus all of her categories. I am a big Carrie Underwood Fan and she has grown so much since American Idol.

No name or face in country music has been more high-profile than Carrie Underwood. She has been everything that Country music has to offer. To lose EOTY would be an obvious slight.
No one has a year like she has and gets ignored.

I would love to see Keith win male vocalist (I’m ok with Brad too but since he has already won for video & vocal event w/Keith IMO it is Keith’s time – Kenny here would also be fine IF he doesn’t win EOTY). Carrie should definately take female vocalist – the only other possibility would be Miranda but she just doesn’t do as much as Carrie does. Jake Owen has already won new male vocalist & is now up for top new artist against Julianne Hough (who won new female vocalist) and the Zac Brown Band (who won best new group or duo) – I am pulling for either of the J’s (Jake or Julianne). My pick for duo would be M&G or B&D – I too see Sugarland as more of a solo act (which isn’t true but… also I have not like their last 2 cd’s). I saw both Carrie & Kenny last year in concert and Carrie was fantastic – Kenny not so much (I have seen him for several years in a row & last year he was off – not as high energy & Leann didn’t do a lot to help). Personally – I think Carrie has EARNED entertainer this past year – look at her cd sales, her ticket sales, her money earned over her 137 concerts, her nomination & induction into the Grand Old Opry, her 4 (almost 5) #1 hits from Carnival Ride, her positive exposure of country music to other types of music listeners (from American Idol with the legend Randy Travis to the Grammys). Honestly tell me WHO had an all around better year entertainment wise? As for the single, song, album of the year: single – You’re Gonna Miss This (guessing it will be Waitin on a Woman): song – In Color or Johnny & June (guessing it will be In Color or I Saw God Today): album – Carnival Ride should win (guessing it will be: Troubador, That Lonesome Song or Fearless-since Taylor can’t sing so she will never win a vocalist award-a nod to her sales.)
