I recently lost my son Ayden. He was three and a half months old. He died of a congenital heart defect. When he died, I took comfort in knowing that he will be with my great grandpa and my recently deceased uncles. That they can play trucks and trains… this video has a special meaning to me because of that.

The way that they wrote it does not match with the video. I like the video – and I like the song, but I have to agree with the others that they do not really match.

I have a hard time reconciling the video with the lyrics as it doesn’t seem to make any sense.

The song seems to be talking about lost love – “One day I thought I’d see her with her daddy by her side, and violins would play – “here comes the bride” ”

—-and—-

“here comes me wishing things had never changed and she was right here in my arms again”

—-and—-

and – “why’s it have to go from ‘good to gone’ before the lights turn on, yeah, you’re left alone, but here comes goodbye” -

the above lyrics are obviously talking about lost love and a break up, yet the video is all about a little boy dying. (the man in the video asks the little boy – “what’s it like?” (meaning being dead) and the little boy answers – “there are no more goodbyes”.

Also – in the beginning of the song – the lyric that she usually “walks right in”, but this time she “rang the bell” – speaks of a break up, not death……

I love Rascal Flatts, the song is great and the video is too, but I sure wish the two went together.

For everyone who says the video does not match the song they are obviously not listening to the words. There is not definition of the song it is one realm of what the song can mean. It means something different to everyone. The beginning of the song it talks about hearing the truck tires, she is talking about how something which is so normal and has happened so many times (“I can hear the truck tires coming up the gravel road,And it’s not like her to drive that slow, Nothings on the radio, Footsteps on the front porch I hear my doorbell She usually comes right in Now I can tell”) is somehow off. The mom is telling talking about knowing what here daughter is getting ready to feel and how she has been feeling. It is in the chorus. For anyone who has lost someone close to them understands this song and even some who haven’t. I lost my niece (she was an infant) and I understand it is talking about a state of mind. How in a split second your entire life can change. Rascal has done a great job on this video!!! I cry everytime but they did a good job!!

How can it be a continuation of ‘What Hurts the Most’ if it’s not even the same girl? The boy in ‘What Hurts the Most’ also dies at the end of that video… Chris Sligh from the 6th season of American Idol co-wrote ‘Here Comes Goodbye’, so I don’t think it has anything to do with ‘What Hurts the Most’. I don’t think that the video is not supposed to completely match up with the song… It just gives another perspective to it – a sad one at that.

I’mm not sure your take on the “What Hurts The Most” video is correct. The Boyfriend is killed in a truck wreck at the end of the video with the girl setting beside the road at a cross in the final scene. Maybe we need to re-examine what is actually going on in the new video. There are no dipictions of the child dying, unless it’s in another video. Which makes this video Part 3.

I know what you mean Becky. I also find the video harsh. I have two young sons myself. That video is just so sad.

I bet you are right that she is just visiting on an anniversary or that she was in so much grief before this maybe the first time she is able to face it.

As far as the happy photo of the family…fences CAN be mended. Although the girl and her father may have been on bad terms when he found out she was pregnant, it doesn’t necessarily mean they stayed that way. Perhaps she is visiting the graves on an anniversary of one of their deaths or she has finally accepted the fact that one or both of them is gone, and she has come to say goodbye. What kills me about this follow-up video, is that she already lost her boyfriend, then her son, now her dad. At this point, I would have gone CRAZY! The video makes me cry EVERYTIME I see it…but the worst thing is my 4 year old son always asks me “Mommy, why are you sad?”
